Course is designed for rising 6th-9th Graders who have not taken Algebra I yet.
Register Before August 1st
Instructor: Joshua Glass | August 3-7, 2026 (9am-12pm)
In this intensive course, students will build a strong foundation for success in Math I by learning how algebra connects expressions, equations, functions, graphs, and real-world situations. The course begins with function notation, algebraic vocabulary, simplifying expressions, and solving equations and inequalities before moving into linear functions, slope, graphing, and systems of equations. Students will then study exponent rules and exponential functions, followed by polynomial operations and factoring strategies that prepare them for quadratic functions. The course concludes with quadratics, where students will analyze parabolas in standard and vertex form, solve quadratic equations by factoring, graph key features, and apply quadratic models to projectile-motion scenarios.
Grading Breakdown
Students are given a final grade based on the following four factors:
Homework (30%) Graded for completion, not accuracy
Quizzes (30%) In-class comprehension checks
Class Participation (20%) Attendance, attentive, respectful to instructor and classmates
Summative Assessment (20%) End-of-course test on all five units
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate of completion if possessing a passing grade. If students have a grade A- or higher, students also receive a certificate of excellence.
